Fun Stuff :: Instant Messaging
Instant Messaging is taking over the web
as one of the most popular and widely-used services
around. It seems like EVERYBODY is IM'ing these days;
and YOU can too! Below are the most popular and prolific
IM's around. We've included a brief description as well
as how TeamNetNet graded them.
Please note: While we encourage you to
make use of these great services, we'd remind you that
we are unable to provide much in the way of support
for these products. If you experience difficulties,
please contact the provider directly.

ICQ
was probably the first widely-used instant messaging
service. Founded as Mirabilis in 1996 by four
young men in Israel, ICQ has approximately 130
million users world-wide. (This is the program
we use in the office for internal communication.)

AIM
is probably the most popular instant messenger
here in the U.S. Initially it was only available
to AOL subscribers, but it is currently distributed
as a stand alone IM program regardless of ISP
affiliation. If someone you know has an IM, this
is probably the one they have.

Yahoo!
Messenger is just one more outstanding service
in Yahoo's suite of fun. Because user's are logged-in
to the Yahoo! system, there is seamless integration
between the IM, mail, news, etc. (Plus the IMvironments
are pretty neat.)

MSN
Messenger (or .NET messenger) fits beautifully
into the rest of the Microsoft Operating System.
It's super easy to use.
